"The billionaires’ race to reconfigure death is the latest manifestation of a timeless human fascination”
- Financial Times
“A timeless human fascination" ... Or our deep-rooted survival programming? Recent stories published in the Financial Times and CNBC highlight increased funding of longevity research. They suggest that the world is at the cusp of a significant bio-cybernetic transition; one that is poised to disrupt all areas of society, even the very nature of life and death. Increased funding in longevity research by tech billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Peter Thiel, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Yuri Milder, Mark Zuckerberg, and Larry Ellison reveal that our perennial quest for immortality might not just be within our reach, but could dwarf the societal and financial impact of all prior technological breakthroughs. The fountain of youth is the new fountain of wealth, and for many, it could be our fountain of hope. I believe that placing a financial priority on the betterment of individual lives will inspire a renewed sense of purpose and not just innovative entrepreneurial ventures. Technology is evolving at an exponential rate, so is human interconnectivity & complexity in communication. My hope is that greater knowledge and command over our biology and health will lead to a better understanding of the dynamics of our shared experiences and more harmony. Luckily, thanks to visionary philosophers, artists, academics, and scientists worldwide, education on the ethical and social impacts of emerging technologies is an exciting new field of study and research. It is our goal with Immortalists Magazine to make this information as widely accessible as possible. To delve into the crucial futurist world of trans-, meta-, and post-humanism, I invite you to check out our free educational content. In our latest issue, for example, you will discover a mind-opening interview with world-leading philosopher, Stefan Lorenz Sorgner about his new book "On Transhumanism" (pg. 24-34), followed by a review of the book by prominent scholar from the University of Cape Town, Leo Igwe (pg. 46-56). The growing fields of superlongevity & transhumanist studies are bringing about a new evolutionary era of unimaginable possibilities and self-agency, not just civic duty. If you are not convinced, I invite you to read “The Russian Cosmism: New Human Rights” (pg. 68-81) by distinguished NYU professor, Boris Groys. Last but not least, don't miss our interview (pg. 108-123) with New Jersey mayoral candidate Jennifer A. Huse. Dive into her fascinating plans of transforming one of the most economically disadvantaged areas in the United States into one of the most forward-thinking places to live. Information is power.
